HyperV VM has replicated ok to Azure using Site Replication however I am unable to run a failover test as it states "You need to configure virtual machine's resource group before doing a failover".

When trying to edit the Resource Group of the replicated machine the website sits there with a processing icon and never allows me to edit the greyed out properties.

Error: You need to configure virtual machine's resource group before doing a failover

. This error may display soon as you enable replication on a VM running in Hyper-V host.

. The same error will also display a warning that the source VM has been configured to use unmanaged disks which are not supported in Azure.

. Another symptom of this error is, when enabling replication, the process will get stack on the item 'Identifying the replication target'.

    • This should definitely inform you that the Hyper-V host is somewhat unreachable despite having successfully registered with Azure.

    Solution:

    • The cause of this error is improper installation of the required programs.
    • Therefore, do a thorough uninstallation and clean up of the current installation on the Hyper-V host and delete/purge the Hyper-V host registration in Azure.
    • After that, install the programs afresh and register the Hyper-V host.
    • NOTE that the Hyper-V host name can remain the same.
