MDS Excel Add-in: Data Loading Beyond Table Range in Specific Entity

Description:

We are experiencing an issue with the MDS Add-in for Excel where data from a specific entity is not loading correctly for one of our users.

Environment:

  • SQL Server 2016 with Master Data Services
  • MDS Add-in for Excel
  • Entity contains approximately 800 rows

Problem: When the affected user loads data from a specific entity using the MDS Excel Add-in, all rows appear to load into Excel, but a portion of the data falls outside the MDS table range. This results in:

  • Inability to filter the data that falls outside the table range
  • Inability to edit/update the data that falls outside the table range
  • Data appears in Excel but is not recognized as part of the MDS entity table

Important Details:

  • The user has full permissions on the entity (verified)
  • This issue occurs only with this specific entity (~800 rows)
  • Other entities load correctly for the same user
  • The issue is user-specific; I cannot reproduce it with my own account
  • We have been using the MDS Excel Add-in successfully for an extended period

Steps Already Taken:

  • Verified user permissions on the entity
  • Confirmed the issue is isolated to this specific entity
  • Confirmed other entities work correctly for this user

Question: What could cause data to load outside the MDS table range in Excel for a specific user and entity combination? Are there any known limitations, settings, or configurations that could cause this behavior? All entity data should load within the MDS table range in Excel, allowing full filtering and editing capabilities.

Thank you for your assistance.

It's not solved, I recommended reinstalling everything. Looks like a bug

No, we were not able to get it working, unfortunately. We believe the Excel installation might be corrupted, because this issue only occurs for one user and it works fine for everyone else. We are going to suggest reinstalling the laptop, as we have no idea how to resolve this otherwise.

    Hi @Ronald Kraijesteijn ,

Clear the user’s MDS Excel cache and reload the entity in a fresh workbook this resolves most “data outside table range” issues.

    Thanks,
    Akhil.
