How to disable Microsoft Edge? It serves no purpose for me. It intrudes when I'm trying to do something.

Microsoft Edge overrides other browsers when I'm searching for something. I'm well aware that Microsoft is trying to get more customers buying their product. But that's a pretty shabby way of doing it. I'm at the point where Apple is starting to look good. I don't know if this is related, but I can't get my codes for verification. I've tried everything I found on the net. Nothing works.

All you have to do is put the question on the net and if you find something that works, that would be fabulous! I'm retired and my laptop is my toy of choice. I have sat for days trying to figure out how to fix these problems. I have a Dell Latitude 7940. I bought it refurbished thru Best Buy. Given the positive that goes with Dell, I didn't think there could be many issues.

I'm tired of trying to fix something that doesn't seemed to want to be fixed. It's my understanding that these issues are common.

Do a web search for Edge Blocker 2.0 (Sordum). See if that fits your needs.

To disable Microsoft Edge, you can follow these steps:

    1. Set a Different Default Browser: Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps. Under Web browser, select a different browser (like Chrome or Firefox) as your default.
    2. Uninstall Microsoft Edge: If you want to uninstall Edge completely, you can do so via PowerShell:
      • Press Windows + X and select Windows Terminal (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin).
      • Type the following command and press Enter:
             Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge* | Remove-AppxPackage

      • Note that this might not work on all versions of Windows 11, as Edge is integrated into the system.
    3. Disable Edge from Startup: If Edge opens automatically, you can disable it from starting up:
      • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
      • Go to the Startup tab, find Microsoft Edge, and click Disable.
    4. Remove Edge from Taskbar: Right-click on the Edge icon in the taskbar and select Unpin from taskbar.
    5. Use Group Policy Editor: If you have Windows 11 Pro, you can use the Group Policy Editor to disable Edge features, but this is more advanced.

If you're still facing issues with verification codes or other problems, consider checking your browser settings or contacting support for further assistance.

Neither of the answers to stop Edge from auto starting or removing it work. Edge
dot NOT appear in the Task Manager startup list. I am QUITE familiar with how to use
Task Manager. I have no use for Edge and I can't remove it using the option provided.

This is a major annoyance as the darned program insists on starting and displaying a new
suggested tab every time I have to re-enter my login credentials after a lack of activity.

What is stranger is that on my older laptop, running the same version of Windows 11, this
    does not occur.
