My goodness, this nonsense has been pushing me hard away from Microsoft!

It started a few days ago, out of the blue: since then, I've found I am forced to log in my Google account every-single-time I turn on the computer, because the loving Mr. Edge decided to log me off every time I turn off the machine. I have watched zillions of youtube videos explaining how to fix the problem, to no avail. My configurations regarding cookies and browsing are all fine, I have nothing 'checked'... This is SO BLOODY ANNOYING!!! How can I stop this torture, please?

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

If you have already disabled 'Cookies and Other site data' and 'Cached images and files' in the Clear browsing data on close section,

edge://settings/privacy/clearBrowsingData/clearOnClose

cache (1)

And you're being asked to sign in every time using your Google account on any of the services, try creating a new Edge User Profile and see if you are experiencing the same behavior there.

  1. To create a new edge User profile, go to Edge browser Settings > Profiles.
  2. Then, add a profile.
  3. Select Start without your data.
  4. Then, sign in with your google account on the services you use.
  5. Once signed in, close or restart your computer.
  6. Access the new edge user profile and see if you are logging in directly with your google account.
  7. If it worked, you can delete your old user profile.
  8. Then, sign in with that account on the new profile.

To address the issue of Microsoft Edge logging you off your Google account every time you turn off your computer, you can try the following steps:

  1. Check Cookie Settings: Ensure that cookies are enabled in Edge. Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies and site data and make sure that cookies are allowed.
  2. Sign In to Edge: Make sure you are signed in to Microsoft Edge with a Microsoft account. This can help maintain your session across restarts. Go to Settings > Profiles and sign in if you haven't already.
  3. Clear Browsing Data: Sometimes, clearing your browsing data can help. Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data and select what you want to clear.
  4. Check Sync Settings: Ensure that your sync settings are enabled. Go to Settings > Profiles > Sync and make sure that the options you want to sync are turned on.
  5. Reset Edge: If the issue persists, consider resetting Edge. Go to Settings > Reset settings and choose Restore settings to their default values. This will reset Edge but keep your favorites and saved passwords.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be worth checking for any updates to Edge or considering reinstalling the browser.

I had the same issue, and these are how I resolved it:

    • Sign out profile from Edge and Tick 'Clear favorites, history, passwords, and other browsing data from this device.'
    • Log in this account again.

Don't worry about losing data, because the data we choose to delete is stored on your computer's hard drive, specifically in the AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data folder. Meanwhile, the data will be restored when you sign in again, and it will be downloaded from the Edge cloud back to your hard drive. This error occurs due to a conflict between the Google ecosystem’s cache and cookies and Edge.
