Hold Power button for 20–30 seconds

    Turn it back on

    Turn off device

    Hold Volume Up + Power

If lines appear in UEFI also → likely hardware issue (screen or cable)

If UEFI looks normal → probably driver/software issue

Boot into Safe mode and check if the line appears there.

    Go to:

Settings → Windows Update → Check updates

Surface devices use custom drivers, so updates come via Windows Update.

Try these steps to troubleshoot lines on the Surface Pro 11 screen at startup:

    1. Check for basic startup issues
      • If the device won’t fully start, or gets stuck on a logo/black screen with lines, follow the startup steps:
        • Disconnect all accessories (docks, external monitors, USB devices).
        • Make sure Surface is charged.
        • Try waking it with Ctrl + Shift + Win + B.
        • Force a restart by holding the power button for 20 seconds.
      • These steps are described under general startup issues for Surface devices.
    2. Use the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (if Windows loads)
      • Open the Surface app (or install it from Microsoft Store if needed).
      • In Help & support, check update status and install all available updates via Windows Update.
      • Use Get help in the Surface app to report the display issue.
      • Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (search for “Surface Diagnostic Toolkit” in Start). Follow the on‑screen steps; it will test hardware, including display, and attempt fixes.
    3. Use screen‑specific troubleshooting
      • For lines, flicker, distortion, or other display artifacts, use the dedicated display troubleshooting options for Surface:
        • “Screen that’s flickering”
        • “Screen with lines through it”
        • “Garbled or distorted picture”
      • These guides walk through additional checks and determine if the issue is likely hardware.
    4. If the problem persists
      • If lines remain after updates, diagnostics, and display troubleshooting, the issue may be hardware‑related (panel or graphics).
      • Use the service options:
        • Check warranty, create a service order, and prepare the device for shipping to Microsoft.
        • Or, where available, visit an in‑person Surface service center for professional inspection and possible repair.
        • If technically experienced, review Microsoft’s self‑repair information for Surface components and guides.

If none of the above resolves the issue, proceed directly to the service/repair options for Surface.
