Text-based conversations between users with searchable history in Microsoft Teams Free
Hi vicki tan,
I understand that copy and paste in Teams Free works again after restarting Teams but then stops working after some time. Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors here cannot check your device or account directly but can help narrow down the cause.
There is currently a service degradation for Microsoft Teams Free where some users may be unable to search, chat, or call users. However, based on your description, the issue sounds more specifically related to copy and paste. It may be related to the ongoing service issue only if you are also unable to search for users, start chats, send messages, or call people in Teams Free.
Note: the image provided is a real-time screenshot from the Outlook.com Service Health Status at https://status.cloud.microsoft/.
Have you had a chance to try the Q&A Assist suggestion, especially using Ctrl+V instead of the right-click Paste option? Microsoft Support confirms that Teams supports the standard copy and paste shortcuts in messages: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/copy-and-paste-in-messages-in-microsoft-teams-37e94b44-0b77-4091-87f7-b448a114de26
To better understand whether this matches the ongoing Teams Free service issue, could you please confirm the following?
- Are you using Teams Free on Windows, Mac, web browser, iOS, or Android?
- Does the issue happen with text only, images, links, or all copied content?
- When paste stops working, can you still type and send a message manually?
- Can you still search for people, start a new chat, and make calls?
- Do any contacts appear as “Unknown user,” or are you unable to find certain users?
If only paste is affected, please also test Teams on the web at https://teams.live.com and check whether copy and paste work there. If Teams on the web works normally, the issue is more likely related to the local Teams app session rather than the current Teams Free service degradation.
I hope this helps.
