Issue with the Tab Session Manager extension for Microsoft Edge

When I put my PC to sleep, my Microsoft Edge extensions disappeared and stopped showing up, and I was automatically logged out of websites I was logged into. After that, a message appeared saying that Tab Session Manager was corrupted. When I tried to repair it, all the tabs I had saved in the past disappeared. How can I fix this? The tabs containing data I used at work have also disappeared, so I’m really in a bind.

    Hi Thomas jack,

From your description, this looks more like extension/profile data becoming unavailable after Edge flagged the extension as corrupted, rather than a normal tab restore issue.

    Please try these additional checks:

1, Make sure Edge is using the correct profile

    • Open Edge > profile icon
    • Switch to your usual profile if another one is active
    • Go to Settings > Profiles > Sync and confirm Extensions sync is turned on
    • Edge sync can restore synced browser items such as extensions and other profile data.

2, Check Tab Session Manager’s own recovery options

    • Open Tab Session Manager
    • Look for any available cloud sync, import/export, or auto-saved sessions
    • The extension’s official add-on page confirms it supports these recovery-related features.

If the saved sessions were only local:

    • Recovery may be limited if cloud sync/export was not enabled before the corruption message appeared
    • This is because the saved session list belongs to the extension’s own storage methods, not to Edge’s built-in tab sync.

Microsoft Edge can automatically disable or remove extensions that it detects as corrupted or that change important browser settings without permission. When this happens and an extension is repaired or reinstalled, its local data (such as saved sessions) may already be lost or reset, and Edge does not provide a way to recover that data once it has been removed.

For this scenario there is no supported method in Edge to restore the lost Tab Session Manager sessions after the extension was reported as corrupted and repaired.

To reduce the chance of data loss in the future:

    1. Regularly export or back up important data from extensions that store critical work information (for example, using any built‑in export/backup feature the extension provides, or syncing to a cloud account if the extension supports it).
    2. Ensure Edge is working correctly and not crashing or being forcibly closed. If Edge shows other issues (extensions disappearing, sign‑outs, crashes), follow these steps:
      • Restart the PC.
      • Scan the device for malware using Windows Security.
      • Verify any third‑party security software is up to date.
      • Repair Microsoft Edge:
        1. Close Edge for all users.
        2. Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
        3. Select Microsoft Edge > Modify.
        4. Approve the prompt, ensure the device is online, and select Repair.
    3. If Edge disables an extension again, re‑enable it from Settings and more > Extensions > Manage extension, and review its permissions before continuing to rely on it for critical data.

If the problem continues (extensions repeatedly corrupting or disappearing), collect details and contact Microsoft Support or the extension developer for further investigation.
