On Windows 11, if Microsoft Edge is installed but will not open or appears unavailable, use the following steps:
- Restart the computer
- A running program or process may be blocking Edge.
- Restart the device, then try opening Microsoft Edge again.
- Scan the device for malware
- Use Windows Security to run a manual scan (see the "Run a scan manually" section in Stay protected with Windows Security: https://support.microsoft.com/help/4013263).
- Remove any detected threats and restart the device.
- Verify third‑party security software
- If using antivirus or security tools such as Norton or McAfee, open the app and check for updates.
- Install all available security updates.
- If necessary, temporarily disable the security software and test opening Edge again.
- Repair Microsoft Edge
- Close Microsoft Edge completely for all user accounts.
- Ensure the account has administrative rights.
- Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Edge, select it, then choose Modify.
- If Modify is not available, Edge may be managed by an organization; contact the system administrator.
- When prompted Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?, select Yes.
- Ensure the device is connected to the internet, then select Repair.
- Browser data and settings should not be affected by the repair.
- Reinstall or update Microsoft Edge if needed
- If repair does not resolve the issue, download the latest Microsoft Edge installer from a working browser and reinstall Edge on top of the existing installation.
- For installation/update issues, also check:
- Sufficient disk space.
- Running the installer as administrator.
- System meets Edge requirements.
- Temporarily disabling antivirus if it blocks installation.
If Edge still cannot be opened and the Modify option is missing, or if the system is managed (for example, by an organization), contact the administrator or Microsoft Support for further assistance.
