Hi Eli,

Deleting the CapabilityAccessManager directory can affect how Windows manages permissions for system features. If those components are not rebuilt correctly, network-related functions like Wi‑Fi may stop working even though the hardware itself is fine.

To restore connectivity, you can try the following targeted steps:

1, Reset network stack

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings
  • Select Network reset, then restart your PC

2, Re-enable required services

  • Press Win + R > type services.msc
  • Ensure these are running:
    • WLAN AutoConfig
    • Capability Access Manager Service (camsvc)
  • Set both to Automatic if not already

3, Force rebuild of the missing components

  • Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
  • Restart after completion

4, Repair using Windows Update

  • Go to Settings > System > Recovery
  • Choose Fix problems using Windows Update (repair install option)

Deleting system-related components can break networking, so focus on restoring the Wi‑Fi adapter and its driver.

Since there is no Ethernet port and therefore no internet access on the PC, use another device (phone, another PC) plus a USB drive if needed.

    1. Check if the Wi‑Fi adapter is detected and enabled
      1. Select Search on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and select Device Manager.
      2. Expand Network adapters.
      3. If the wireless adapter appears but has a down arrow, press and hold (or right‑click) it and select Enable device.
      4. If it appears with an error icon, open Properties and check the Driver tab and error code, then update the driver as below.
      5. If the wireless adapter is missing entirely, Windows is not detecting it and a driver reinstall is required.
    2. Reinstall the Wi‑Fi adapter driver Because the PC is offline, prepare the driver first:
      1. On another PC or device with internet, go to the laptop/PC manufacturer’s support site.
      2. Download the latest wireless/Wi‑Fi network adapter driver for the exact model.
      3. Copy the driver installer to a USB flash drive.
      4. Plug the USB into the affected PC and copy the driver locally.
      Then reinstall:
      1. On the affected PC, open Device Manager.
      2. Expand Network adapters and locate the wireless adapter.
      3. Press and hold (or right‑click) it and select Uninstall device.
      4. Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device, then select Uninstall.
      5. Select Start > Power > Restart.
      6. After restart, Windows will try to reinstall the driver automatically.
      7. If it does not, run the driver installer copied from the USB.
    3. If no network adapters are detected If the wireless adapter still does not appear in Device Manager after the steps above:
      1. Verify again that the correct driver for the device model and Windows version was installed.
      2. If it is still missing, manually install the driver from the manufacturer’s package (often a setup.exe or .msi) and restart.

Once the adapter is visible and enabled in Device Manager, Wi‑Fi should reappear in Settings > Network & Internet, and networks should be listed again.
