    Dear @Alondra Pranteau,

Good day, and thank you for reaching out to the Q&A Forum. I understand that you are unable to add classmates in Microsoft Teams, and I’m sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, especially if this is affecting your classwork or communication with your classmates. As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could directly access your account or delve into the backend systems to diagnose and fix this for you. However, our role here is limited to providing general guidance and solutions that can be applied by users.

From your description and my research, this behavior is likely related to chat policies configured by your school. In Microsoft Teams for Education, schools may use settings such as disabled private chat, supervised chat, or limited/restricted chat permissions to help maintain a safer and more controlled communication environment for students. Because these settings are controlled by the school, students usually cannot change them on their own. I recommend contacting your teacher or school IT administrator and explaining the following:

    • You are unable to start or create new chats with classmates.
    • You would like to know whether your account has restricted, limited, or supervised chat permissions.
    • If possible, please provide the exact error message you see when trying to add someone, as this can help your school IT team identify the related policy more easily.

If you don't know who your IT administrator is, please refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

I hope this information helps clarify the situation and provides a clear path forward. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm always happy to help. Have a wonderful day!
