Microsoft Teams won’t launch even after full system rebuild and updates

I am unable to launch Microsoft Teams on my Windows device. The application appears in Task Manager as running, but no window ever opens on the desktop.

Troubleshooting steps already completed:

Fully rebuilt/reimaged the laptop

Installed all Windows Updates

Cleared Teams cache (%appdata%\Microsoft\Teams)

  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Teams

Removed Teams Machine-Wide Installer

Tried launching via %localappdata%\Microsoft\Teams\Update.exe --processStart "ms-teams.exe"

Reset Teams from Windows Apps settings

Verified it is not opening off‑screen

Confirmed no error messages appear

Despite all of the above, Teams still does not open. It only shows as a background process in Task Manager.

I need assistance diagnosing why Teams will not launch and resolving the issue.

Hello Amarnath Poddatooru,

Thank you for sharing such detailed information and for all the troubleshooting steps you’ve already tried, I really appreciate the effort you’ve put into this. I understand how frustrating it must be, especially after a full system rebuild.

To help narrow this down further, could I kindly ask you to try a couple of additional checks?

First, could you please confirm whether Teams works via the web by accessing: https://teams.microsoft.com

This will help verify if the issue is limited to the desktop application or not.

Next, it would be helpful to test with a new local Windows user profile, as sometimes this type of behavior can be related to the user profile environment. You can follow this guide to create a new user account: Manage User Accounts in Windows - Microsoft Support

User's image

Once created, please sign in with the new profile and try launching Teams there to see if the behavior is the same.

If the issue still persists after that, I would recommend performing a clean uninstall of Teams using the official steps here: Uninstall the Teams client - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

After completing the uninstall, please reinstall Teams using the latest version following this guide: Bulk deploy the Microsoft Teams desktop client - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

This ensures that all components are reinstalled properly.

Please take your time with these steps, and once you’ve had a chance to test them, feel free to update me with the results. I’ll be glad to continue working with you to get this resolved.

Thank you very much for your patience and cooperation.

Best regards,
