Changing your location through a VPN will not convert your Microsoft Rewards account to another country. Microsoft Rewards offers and gift cards vary by region, and Microsoft requires you to redeem points in the same region where you signed up and earned them.

You should stop using the VPN because attempting to access another country’s Rewards offers through a VPN can cause redemption problems or potentially lead to restrictions on your Rewards account.

Changing VPN or device region does not change the Microsoft Rewards country for an existing account, and Microsoft Rewards must be used only in the country/region where the account is registered and where the points were earned.

Key points from the policies and behavior:

    1. Rewards are region-locked
      • Rewards offers and gift cards depend on the Microsoft Rewards region of the account, not on VPN or Windows device settings.
      • Microsoft Rewards catalogs vary by country/region and are tied to the account’s registered region.
    2. VPN use is explicitly disallowed for Rewards
      • When redeeming points, VPNs must not be used.
      • Using a service to alter the true IP address (VPN, proxy, etc.) is listed as a violation and can lead to suspension or loss of points.
    3. Points must be redeemed in the same country where they were earned
      • Policies explicitly prohibit trying to earn points from more than one country in the same day and redeeming points from outside the country where those points were earned.
      • This means points earned on a Guyana account must be redeemed against the Guyana Rewards catalog only.
    4. Changing Microsoft account region has limits and risks
      • The Microsoft account profile region can be changed at https://account.microsoft.com/profile, but:
        • Items and balances are region-bound and may not work after a region change.
        • Funds and some subscriptions do not move between regions.
      • Rewards documentation also notes that offers vary by region and must be redeemed in the same region where the account was set up and points were earned.

Because of these rules, simply using a VPN or changing Windows region will not switch the Rewards catalog to another country’s gift cards, and attempting to bypass region rules can result in account issues.

    To proceed safely:

    • Do not use a VPN with Microsoft Rewards.
    • Use the Rewards catalog available for the current account region (Guyana).
    • If moving countries long-term, create or use an account that is legitimately set to the new country/region and earn points there going forward, understanding that existing points from the old region cannot be moved or converted.
