I am stuck in a verification loop while making a product purchase from www.microsoft.com. Item is in cart. I am signed in with my microsoft personal account and can see my purchase history. I click cart then click check out. I am asked for password or code. No matter which I do I end up back at sign in prompt for check out. I know the password and I can get the verification code via email. Neither will work. I am at a lost.

Updated the name on my account through account info and now allowed to make purchase.

    Hello SCS Project MGT,

Thanks for coming back to post what fixed it.

Checkout needs a complete account profile, and a missing name field on the account can block the purchase from going through. The way that surfaces — bouncing you back to the password/code prompt instead of throwing a clear "complete your profile" error — makes it look like a sign-in or verification loop, which is why it's so confusing to land on.

Updating the name under your account info filled in that missing piece, so checkout was able to proceed.

Appreciate you sharing the fix — this'll help the next person who hits the same loop and can't figure out why their password and code both "work" but still don't get them through.

Follow these steps to break out of the sign-in/verification loop and complete checkout:

    1. Clear or bypass cached sign-in
      • Open a private/incognito window in your browser.
      • Go to https://login.live.com/ and sign in with the same Microsoft personal account.
      • Once signed in successfully there, open a new tab in the same private/incognito window and go back to the Microsoft Store site and try checkout again.
    2. Check browser security/cookie settings The loop can be caused by cookies not being shared correctly between Microsoft sign-in and the store site.
      • Make sure these domains are not treated differently (for example, not in a special “trusted sites” zone that blocks normal cookie sharing):
        • microsoft.com
        • support.microsoft.com and its subdomains
        • login.live.com
        • login.microsoftonline.com
      • If any of them must be in a trusted list, ensure all of them are in the same list/zone so cookies can be shared.
    3. Try a different browser or device
      • Use another browser (Edge/Chrome/Firefox/Safari) or another device and repeat step 1 (sign in at https://login.live.com first, then go to the cart and checkout).
    4. If the loop continues
      • Use the sign-in helper to check for any sign-in issues with the account: Sign-in helper.
      • If still stuck, contact Microsoft Support so an agent can review the sign-in/checkout issue for the account and region: Contact Microsoft Support (sign in with any Microsoft account if needed).

Note: Support agents cannot send verification codes or change account security details, but they can help troubleshoot sign-in and purchase problems.
