Microsoft Edge: Missing synchronization of payment methods in work accounts (Enterprise / Compliance issue)

Microsoft Edge does not support syncing payment methods (credit cards) in work accounts (Microsoft 365 / Azure AD), while it works for personal accounts.

This is a problem in real business use:

  • Company credit cards must stay within the company identity (not personal accounts)
  • Sync across devices is required for daily operations (working in office, laptop and home)
  • Current behavior forces either no sync or storing corporate data in private accounts

This creates a clear compliance and usability issue.

Request:

Please support secure synchronization of payment methods for work accounts, with admin control and proper enterprise security.

Is this on the roadmap?

From a business perspective, this feels like a consumer-first design that does not reflect real enterprise usage pattern

    Hello Markus Ertler,

The inability to sync payment methods across work accounts in Microsoft Edge is a known architectural limitation rather than a software bug. Currently, the Microsoft Edge synchronization infrastructure for Entra ID accounts explicitly supports attributes like passwords, favorites, and history, but it does not support the routing or storage of payment method data. This restriction acts as a security boundary to prevent sensitive corporate financial data from persisting in a browser's roaming profile across unmanaged devices.

While system administrators can heavily customize browser behavior using Group Policy Objects deployed to the registry path Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge, these tools can only restrict features, not invent them. For example, policies like SyncTypesListDisabled can prevent certain data from leaving a machine, but because the Entra cloud backend is physically not configured to accept payment data payloads from enterprise tokens, there are no registry keys or feature flags that can force this synchronization to occur.

Since there is no current technical workaround to securely sync corporate credit cards natively within an Entra ID browser profile, you will need to wait for an official update from Microsoft. This feature is not currently documented on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap. To advocate for this enterprise capability, I recommend escalating your business requirements through your Microsoft Unified Support representative or the Edge engineering feedback portal to influence future development.
