Training: Instruction to develop new skills.
Hello Aditya Sharma,
Greetings! Thanks for raising this question in Q&A forum.
This is a very common situation for students whose college is part of a larger institution or has multiple wings that are listed separately. The reason your main ITM College Aligarh name is missing from the dropdown is that the Azure for Students verification system maintains its own database of recognized institutions, and not every college or affiliated campus is individually listed in it. The good news is that there are a few paths to still get verified.
Step 1: Try selecting one of the listed wings as a workaround first.
Since you mentioned that the Pharmacy and Polytechnic wings of ITM College are already listed, try selecting one of those during signup. If you have a valid institutional email address from ITM College (for example, one ending in the college's domain), this combined with the listed wing name may be enough for the automated system to verify your student status. Give this a try first as it is the quickest option.
Step 2: Use the manual document verification path during signup.
If the dropdown selection does not match your situation, look for the option that says something like "I don't have access to an academic email" or "Verify in a different way" or "Verify using document upload" on the same verification screen. If you see it, select that option and upload any of the following: student ID card, enrollment certificate or proof of registration. Once submitted, reviews typically take 1 to 7 business days.
For your documents, upload any of the following that clearly shows your name, college name, and enrollment status:
- Your college student ID card
- A bonafide certificate or enrollment letter issued by ITM College Aligarh
- Your current semester fee receipt or marksheet with college letterhead
Step 3: To answer your direct question - yes, you can reference your affiliated university.
Since ITM College Aligarh is affiliated with a university (such as Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University), you can mention the affiliated university name during the manual verification step, provided you also upload documents that clearly show your actual college name. The key is that you must affirm that you attend an accredited, degree-granting institution where you are a full-time student and the documents need to confirm that clearly.
Step 4: Contact Azure for Education support directly if the above does not work.
Use the Azure or education support channel associated with the offer so the team can check whether the institution or domain is in the academic eligibility list. You can reach them here: https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/institutions/contact
In your message, mention:
- Your full college name: ITM College Aligarh
- That the college is affiliated with your university
- That only the wing names appear in the dropdown but not the main institution
- Request manual verification or addition of the institution to their database
Step 5: Try the GitHub Student Developer Pack as an alternative path.
Sign up at https://education.github.com/pack and get your student status approved there. You can upload your ID card or transcript. Then go back to Azure sign-up and choose "Sign in with GitHub" to complete verification. GitHub's verification process is often more flexible for students whose institutions are not in Microsoft's automated list.
