How can I validate a Windows 11 Pro Product Key received from a Desktop Vendor a year after I purchased the hardware?

In May 2025, I purchased a Mini-PC from an Amazon seller. Windows 11 Pro was pre-installed on the device. I did not ask about the key assuming I could find it if I needed it. The activation when it arrived went as it should have (I guess)............... Now in June 2026, that installed copy of Win 11 Pro is giving me issues that I do not understand, and do not have any more time to investigate for a solution.Basic WIndows problems started with:

(1) Certain "Component" items pinned to the Taskbar no longer work from the Taskbar or from Start. Calculator, Camera, Notepad, Paint, and Paint 3D are examples.

(2) No app whose Icon is pinned to the TaskBar will give me a Righ Mouse Button Menu to use. This is very time consuming in my business.

There are other little issues that I have been unable to even begin to solve in the 3 weeks since this began.

I contacted GMKtec (an Amazon Seller in Shenzhen City, Guangdong, China) and after a week they sent me a Product Key for the OS.

Before I run a complete reinstall of that OS, I would like to validate that Key. Primarily because I was told that I should see a Key or Digital identifier associated with my Microsoft Account. But there is nothing there.

Don't know the exact process for software pre-installed on a device manufactured outside the country. If it becomes problematic.

Can you please type cmd in the search on the taskbar and hit enter to launch command prompt, then run the following command:

slmgr /dlv

Thanks for the screenshot.

They installed OEM license on the computer. OEM license can be installed directly in the motherboard as a 'baked-in". Typically only big manuacturers can do that. It can also be entered like a retail key, in that case, having the key around is important and necessary when you reinstall.

To find out how it was input, Launch Powershell (note, it is not Command Prompt, but Powershell), and run this code to see if you have an OEM license on the motherboard.

(Get-CimInstance -ClassName SoftwareLicensingService -Property OA3xOriginalProductKey).OA3xOriginalProductKey

If it returns a key, it means it is in the BIOS, in this case, you don't need a key at all. Reinstall will always pick up the license automatically.

If it doesn't return a key, it means, you must get the license key from the seller, because you will need it for reinstall.

The (Get-...) does return a product key, but not the key that the manufacturer gave me to use with what looks like an image file I was to download from a google drive location.

Is it possible that the key that (Get-CimInstance...) returned, is a key applicable to the original install of Win11Pro used as the basis for the image file they are pointing me to?

Or am I misunderstanding the mechanics of original install to image file then used on numerous machines?

You should never download an image file from a Google drive. That's a red flag.

For the key that returns from the powershell code, does it end with P9XTP?

When you shared the screenshot, the partial key (last 5 digits) is in the screenshot.

So, that confirms the key is read from the motherboard, which is good news for you, meaning you shouldn't have to worry about knowing the key for reinstallation. It should reactivate automatically. The only time it will not reactivate is when motherboard changes - that's just OEM key, it is for the motherboard it is activated on only.

Makes me wanna know more about what it says on that Screenshot panel.

To clarify, knowing that the last 5 quintet of the key does NOT contain "OEM" than it is a Win11Pro copy that was not part of a group purchased for like a large corp or a school or a hospital, etc. and that the Key can be used for any individual OS Upgrade or Re-Install, yes? Given that I download the install MSI or EXE from a Microsoft authorized location. (I'm dying to try that image file from GoogleDrive, just to see what happen, but we know all about curiosity and felines.

No, you definitely don't have the volume license. If it were volume license, this line would have been VOLUME_KMS or VOLUME_MAK.

But yours says OEM:DM.

Because it is OEM License, as I explained initially, there are two ways to input the OEM key. One is by baking it into the motherboard, and another one is manually entering. That's why I wanted you to run the Powershell code, because that code is to see if the key can be read from the motherboard. If it is manually entered, that Powershell code would have returned nothing.

If you need to get Windows image, you get it via Microsoft's Windows Media Creation tool - it is free, official and legit.

I will just leave the info here in case you need it one day.

The following steps should be done on a working Windows computer:

Download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website. https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 click on the "download now" button under "Create Windows 11 Installation Media"

Run the tool and select "Create installation media for another PC."

Choose "USB flash drive" as the media to use for the installation and select "Next."

Connect a USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space to your computer.

Select the USB flash drive you want to use, and then select "Next."

The tool will then download the required files and create the installation media.
