Edge opening 2 new tabs

Recently, Edge started opening 2 new tabs when I click on a link. One tab is the "new tab" page and one is the link I clicked on. I can't figure out how to stop the "new tab" page to stop opening - I want just the link I clicked on to open.

Thanks for posting your question here. This issue happens when there's a conflict with browser extension.

To stop Microsoft Edge from opening both a new tab page, you may need to disable all extensions (edge://extensions) and restart to rule out add‑ons causing the issue. Ensure pop‑ups/redirects are blocked in Settings, select Cookies and site permissions. If you're using Bing, turn off “Open links in new tab” in Bing’s search settings. You may also reset Edge settings to default (Settings, then Reset settings), this keeps bookmarks/passwords but fixes misconfigurations. Also check for stuck Ctrl keys or middle‑mouse clicks and run a Windows Security scan just in case.

I disabled extensions and reset Edge settings and am still seeing the same behavior.

Thanks for trying those steps. Since disabling extensions and resetting Edge did not resolve the issue, follow these steps:

Adjust Bing settings: Go to bing.com, select Menu, then Settings, then More, and uncheck “Open links from search/news results in a new tab or window,” then save.

Check hardware: Test for stuck Ctrl/Shift keys or sensitive middle‑mouse clicks by typing in Notepad or using another mouse.

Clear data: In Edge, go to Privacy, select Clear browsing data, select “All time,” and delete history, cookies, and cache.

Confirm permissions: Ensure pop‑ups and redirects are blocked in site permissions.

Check shortcut: Right‑click the Edge icon, choose Properties, make sure the Target line only shows the path to msedge.exe with no extra text.

Repair Edge: In Windows Settings, go to Apps, select Installed Apps, then Microsoft Edge, and select Modify, then choose Repair, which fixes corrupted files while keeping bookmarks and passwords.

Very strange. I did all these steps and still have the same behavior.
