Word crashes when i try to save documents as pdfs. I want to reinstall word to fix the problem.

I have the same problem. I have been saving Word documents with automatic hyphenation for several months without issue. The latest update, Version 16.110.2, seems to have triggered a crash every time I try to save a Word-to-PDF with hyphens. It is necessary that I keep the hyphens in my documents, so disabling the feature isn't a great option.

I solved my immediate problem by pasting my text into a new document. The new document saved to pdf with no issues.
First try repairing Word by removing add-ins: open Word → go to Tools → Templates and Add-ins, then uncheck any third-party add-ins and restart Word. Also try launching Word in Safe Mode on Mac by holding Shift while opening Word, then test saving as PDF again.
If the issue continues, the cleanest fix is to reinstall Office on macOS. First remove it: quit all Office apps, then open Finder → Applications → drag Microsoft Word (and other Office apps) to Trash. After that, open Finder → Go → Go to Folder and enter: ~/Library, then remove any leftover Microsoft Office folders in Application Support and Containers.
Finally restart your Mac and reinstall Office from your account: https://account.microsoft.com/services
I took all the steps you mentioned and did a reinstall and it still crashes when saving as PDF or printing as PDF. But the problem goes away if I turn off Automatic Hyphenation in Word.

That’s a very useful clue — it strongly suggests this is not an installation issue anymore, but a Word layout/engine bug triggered by Automatic Hyphenation during PDF rendering.
On macOS, Word converts the document to PDF using the print/render engine, and hyphenation can sometimes conflict with font rendering or page layout calculations, which causes the crash.
Since turning off Automatic Hyphenation resolves it, you can safely use that as a workaround: Word → Layout → Hyphenation → None (or Manual)
