This issue has been happening to me for a long time, and I continually have to come back to see how to resolve it, and right now, all of the options are NOT working for me, and I'm beyond frustrated - and all I am thinking is, WHY HAS MICROSOFT NOT FIGURED OUT A WAY TO STOP THIS ISSUE WHEN THIS HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THEIR ATTENTION FOR YEARS??? It is ridiculous we are having to try 5+ solutions people try to share with us instead of Microsoft just figuring this out for everyone. Infuriating and unacceptable. I'm so over it!

Word's normal operation is to open windows to the size and position last used by you. If your installation is not behaving this way, please try creating a new user account (System Settings>Users & Groups), signing in to that, then testing if the problem still exists. If it goes away, it's an issue with the user profile part of your Office installation.

If the issue still exists, or you'd rather not move your user data to a new profile, try uninstalling Office following these steps: Uninstall Office for Mac Then reinstall from the Subscriptions page of your Microsoft account.
