Microsoft Advertising UET Conversions API - Authorization Token not available

2026-06-28T21:41:09.43+00:00

Hello,

We have an active Microsoft Advertising account.

Company:

Alen**********

UET Tag Name:

Alen**********

UET Tag ID:

187******

The UET tag is active and installed correctly on multiple websites.

We are implementing the official Microsoft UET Conversions API for server-side event tracking.

According to the official Microsoft documentation, the Authorization Token should be available through the "Use Conversions API" option in the UET Tag settings.

However, this option is not available in our account.

Could you please clarify:

  1. Is UET Conversions API currently enabled for our account?
  2. If not, could you enable it?
  3. If yes, where can we generate the Authorization Token?

Thank you.

    Hello Веселин,

Thank you for using our Microsoft Advertising Learn Q&A Platform!

I understand that you are interested in learning more about the Conversions API (CAPI) option. I hope the response and resources provided here can be of some help.

The Microsoft Advertising Conversions API (CAPI) enables advertisers to send conversion and engagement events directly from their servers using Universal Event Tracking (UET). By moving conversion tracking server-side, CAPI helps ensure more reliable measurement when browser restrictions, privacy controls, or ad blockers limit client-side tracking. It supports key business actions such as purchases, subscriptions, and custom goals, improving attribution accuracy and campaign optimization across web and app environments.

UET is Microsoft Advertising's core tracking framework and powers conversion measurement, remarketing, automated bidding, and audience insights. While most advertisers use the standard UET JavaScript tag for ease of implementation and advanced features, the Conversions API provides an alternative or complementary option for scenarios where JavaScript cannot be used. With CAPI, event data is sent directly from backend systems, while a lightweight client-side ID sync pixel is used to connect customer identifiers with Microsoft IDs for remarketing and cross-context attribution.

A complete CAPI implementation consists of two data flows: server-to-server UET events and client-side ID synchronization. Page load events are sent for every page view or single-page application navigation, and optional custom events capture richer user actions such as cart views or purchases. These events can include revenue, product details, vertical-specific data (for retail or hotels), and user signals such as click IDs, hashed identifiers, and consent status. Events are delivered in real time to Microsoft's endpoint using authenticated JSON requests and can be sent individually or in batches.

To maximize measurement quality, advertisers should consistently send visitor IDs, the most recent Microsoft Click ID (msclkid), and, when available, hashed email and phone data. Proper linkage between page load and custom events, accurate consent signaling, and optional support for restating or retracting conversions help ensure clean, compliant reporting. While CAPI requires more engineering effort than UET JavaScript, it offers greater control, resilience to browser changes, and a future-ready approach to conversion tracking.

To determine if the UET Conversions API is enabled for your account, you should check the Microsoft Advertising interface. The option to select Use Conversions API should be available in the UET Tag settings if it is enabled for your account. Once the UET Conversions API is enabled, you can obtain your Authorization Token directly from the Microsoft Advertising interface by selecting the Use Conversions API option. This token is necessary for implementing server-side tracking for conversions using the API. To generate the Authorization Token for the Microsoft UET Conversions API, you need to access the Microsoft Advertising interface. Once you are in the account, navigate to the UET Tag settings. If the Use Conversions API option is enabled for your account, you will be able to select it and obtain your Authorization Token directly from there. This token is essential for implementing server-side tracking for conversions using the API. If you do not see this option, it may not be enabled yet. In this case, you should contact your account manager or support to inquire about enabling the feature for your account. For more details, please see the following resources:
