Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hi Riley,
Thank you for reaching out regarding your sign-in experience. I understand how important it is for you to access your UAPTC email and Blackboard for your summer classes, and I appreciate your patience while we clarify this situation.
Please note that the sign-in methods available to your account such as Microsoft Authenticator app approvals or SMS (text message) verification are controlled by your university's administrator (in this case, UAPTC IT).
At the moment, your account appears to be configured to use Microsoft Authenticator app-based verification only, and the option to receive a text message (SMS) code is not enabled. This is why you are only seeing in-app approval or code options instead of a text message option during sign-in.
Many educational institutions choose to require the Authenticator app because it provides a higher level of security compared to SMS verification. However, this also means that alternative methods like text messaging may not be available unless the administrator allows them.
Additionally, since you have accounts with both the UofA and UAPTC, it’s important to ensure you are signing in with the correct UAPTC email address. These are separate systems, and authentication settings may differ between them.
Here are some helpful steps you can take in the meantime:
- Confirm you are signing in with your UAPTC email account
- Check if your UAPTC account is added in your Microsoft Authenticator app
- If you do not see your UAPTC account in the app or cannot complete authentication, please contact UAPTC IT support
The IT team at UAPTC can:
- Verify your account configuration
- Add or enable additional sign-in methods (such as SMS), if permitted
- Reset your authentication setup if needed by following guidance Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID |… This process usually only takes a couple of minutes.
If you’re unsure who your Microsoft 365 administrator is, the following article can help you identify the correct contact at your school: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support .
Please note that this is a user to user support forum, and I do not have access to administrative tools or permissions to reset or modify MFA settings on your account. Because your account is managed by your school, only an authorized Microsoft 365 administrator at your institution can make these changes.
I hope this information helps point you in the right direction and allows you to regain access to your account as quickly as possible. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
