    Reinstall audio drivers:

    Open Device Manager

Expand Sound, video and game controllers

Right-click Realtek Audio → Uninstall device along with "Delete driver software"

Restart — Windows will reinstall the driver automatically

Update via Surface app — Open the Surface app → Check for updates → Install any firmware or driver updates pending.

Run Audio Troubleshooter — Settings > System > Sound > Troubleshoot

Restart the Windows Audio service — Press Win+R, type services.msc, find Windows Audio, right-click → Restart.

Try these steps in order on the Surface Pro 7:

    1. Run the audio troubleshooter
      • Open the Get Help app and run the automated audio troubleshooter for sound issues. It will run diagnostics and attempt to fix common speaker problems.
    2. Check output device and balance
      • Select the Speakers icon on the taskbar.
      • Select the arrow to open the list of audio devices and make sure the built‑in speakers (or the correct output) are selected.
      • In Settings > System > Sound, verify the output device is the Surface speakers and check that any left/right balance control (if shown) is centered.
    3. Check physical obstructions
      • Make sure nothing is blocking the speaker openings on the side that stopped working (cases, decals, dirt, or screen protectors overlapping the openings).
    4. Restart the device
      • Go to Start > Power > Restart.
      • After restart, sign in and test audio (play music/video) to see if both speakers work.
    5. Force shutdown and restart
      • Select Start > Power > Shut down and wait for it to turn off.
      • Then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. If the logo appears, keep holding until it appears again.
      • Turn it back on and test the speakers.
    6. Install latest updates (including audio drivers)
      • Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates.
      • Install all available updates, including any optional updates for audio.
      • Restart and test audio again.
    7. If still one‑sided, consider reset
      • If software steps do not restore the missing channel, use Restore or reset Surface as a last resort to rule out software/driver corruption.
      • If the issue persists even after a reset, this likely indicates a hardware problem with the speaker module and the device may need service.
