Not able to save an edit on my outlook contacts

When trying to update a contact in Outlook, it will not allow me to save the changes. How do I fix this problem?

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

Does the Save button do nothing, or do you get an error message?
Can you edit and save the contact from Outlook.com/People via web?
Is this contact saved under your Outlook/Hotmail account, Gmail account, or another account?

I noticed you posted under New Outlook, please first check if the same contact can be edited from Outlook web.

Go to https://outlook.live.com/people/
Open the contact, edit it, then try to save.

If it saves there, the issue is likely with the new Outlook app. Try this:

Close Outlook.
Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
Find Outlook for Windows.
Click Advanced options.
Try Repair first.
If that does not work, try Reset.

Also make sure the contact is under your actual Contacts list, not Suggested contacts or a directory result. Suggested or directory contacts may not allow editing.

I did try using the web version and it still says couldn't save contact. I am able to edit and save contacts on my iphone, so I have been doing it there.

Since it also fails in Outlook web, but works from your iPhone, this may be related to that specific contact record, browser cache, or a sync issue with Outlook People.

If it still says “couldn’t save contact,” try creating a new contact manually with the same details, then save it. If the new one saves, the original contact may be corrupted or duplicated.

Also, please check if the contact has any unusual fields, very long notes, special characters, or old imported data. Those can sometimes prevent saving.

Can I ask, is this contact stored under your Outlook/Hotmail account, or is it synced from Gmail, iCloud, or another account?
