    Hello Rebecca Allen-Hastings,

I recommend trying the below options:

    1. Full Online Repair
      Steps: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/lifecycle/repair-an-office-application
    2. Open Excel in Safe Mode & Try Open the same file
"Press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box.
"Type excel /safe and hit Enter.
User's image "Then, Click File > Open > Browse > Open your file.
    3. Try Upload the (Excel Sheet) Online on OneDrive & open it through Excel on the web: https://excel.cloud.microsoft/en-us/
    4. Try Turn off (Excel Add-ins / Extensions) temporarily & recheck the same file.

If Excel Working fine with other files and this is the only files that hang the system (I need you to investigate that file):

    1. How much is the File Size?
    2. what is the file's extension (is it .xlxs or xlxb or ... other format)?
    3. You can try (Open & Repair Option) within excel:
Open and Repair' Doesn't Work in MS Excel

    Best,

    M.
