Two email accounts in Outlook 2019. Backed up, removed one 2.84 GB account. Data open shows bare structure and a few messages from after backup but before account removal. Does not show all folders or files. Navigated to correct file and re-ran repair.

    Hi Liz Br21

I understand that your repaired Outlook 2019 PST file opens, but it only shows a basic folder structure and a few recent messages instead of all folders and emails. Please confirm these details:

    • Was the removed account set up as POP, IMAP, Outlook.com, or Exchange/Microsoft 365?
    • Is the PST file stored in OneDrive, Documents\Outlook Files, or another local folder?
    • Do you see a Lost and Found folder or a .bak file in the same folder as the PST?

    Meanwhile, try these steps:

    1) Check the recovered folders created by the repair tool

    • Open Outlook 2019.
    • Press Ctrl + 6 to switch to Folder List view.
    • Look for Recovered Personal Folders or Lost and Found.
    • If items appear in Lost and Found, create a new PST from File > Account Settings > Account Settings > Data Files > Add, then drag the recovered items into the new PST.

After repairing an Outlook data file, Outlook may show Recovered Personal Folders or a Lost and Found folder containing items recovered by the repair tool. See: Repair Outlook Data Files (.pst and .ost) | Microsoft Support

    2) Try recovering from the .bak file created by the repair tool

    • Close Outlook.
    • Open the folder where the PST file is stored.
    • Look for a file with the same name as the PST, but ending in .bak.
    • Make a copy of the .bak file.
    • Rename the copied file so it ends in .pst.
    • Open Outlook, then go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export > Import from another program or file > Outlook Data File (.pst).
    • Select Do not import duplicates and make sure Include subfolders is selected.

    3) Open the original backup PST directly instead of importing it first

    • In Outlook 2019, go to File > Open & Export > Open Outlook Data File.
    • Select the original backup PST file.
    • After it opens, expand the PST at the bottom of the folder pane.
    • Select each subfolder directly to check whether the missing mail appears there.

    4) If the PST is stored in OneDrive, move a copy to a local folder first

    • Close Outlook.
    • Copy the PST to a local folder outside OneDrive, for example: C:\My Outlook Files.
    • Open Outlook again.
    • Go to File > Open & Export > Open Outlook Data File.
    • Select the copied PST file.

If the repaired PST, Lost and Found, and the recovered .bak or .pst copy do not contain the missing folders or messages, the missing items may not be recoverable from that damaged PST.

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!
