Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
I understand that your Comcast/IMAP account is showing an incorrect password error on your phone, and your Classic Outlook profile is missing or no longer sending/receiving. Please confirm:
- Can you sign in successfully at Xfinity/Comcast webmail with the same password?
- Is Third Party Access Security enabled in Xfinity Email settings?
- Is the phone using the Outlook mobile app, the built-in mail app, or another mail app?
Meanwhile, try the checks below in order:
- Confirm the Comcast password works in webmail first
- Sign in directly to Xfinity/Comcast webmail.
- If the password does not work there, reset it with Comcast/Xfinity first.
- After the password works in webmail, use that same password when adding the account back to Outlook and the phone.
- Turn on Comcast/Xfinity third-party email access
- Third-party programs such as Outlook may not be able to access Comcast email unless Third Party Access Security is enabled.
- Sign in to Xfinity Email.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Security.
- Make sure Third Party Access Security is enabled/checked.
- Try the account again in Outlook and on the phone.
- Use Comcast’s current IMAP/SMTP settings
- When adding the account back, use Comcast/Xfinity’s recommended settings for third-party email programs.
- Incoming server: imap.comcast.net
- Incoming port: 993
- Incoming encryption: SSL/TLS
- Outgoing server: smtp.comcast.net
- Outgoing port: 587, or 465 if needed
- Outgoing encryption: TLS, or SSL if TLS is not shown
- Username: your full Comcast email address
Please use IMAP instead of POP when checking mail from more than one device, because IMAP keeps mail synced across devices.
- Update the account settings in Classic Outlook
- Open Control Panel.
- Search for and open Mail.
- Select Email Accounts.
- Select the Comcast account, then choose Change.
- Check the incoming server, outgoing server, username, password, ports, and encryption against Comcast’s settings.
- Select More Settings > Advanced to verify the port and encryption settings.
- Run Test Account Settings.
- Recreate the missing Outlook profile instead of trying to restore the damaged one
- Close Outlook.
- Hold Shift while starting Outlook. Alternatively, press Windows + R, type outlook.exe /profiles, and press Enter.
- Select Options > New.
- Enter a new profile name.
- Add the Comcast account using Advanced options > Let me set up my account manually > IMAP.
- After the account works, set the new profile as the default.
