Microsoft Teams Room Content Sharing

We regularly use Microsoft Teams Rooms for conference room meetings, including joining third-party meetings such as Zoom. Currently, when joining Zoom meetings from a Teams Room device, participants in the room are not able to share their screen/content directly through the room system.

This limitation creates a poor experience and requires workarounds such as:

-Joining the meeting separately from a personal laptop

-Sharing content via an additional device instead of the room system

-Managing multiple audio/video connections, which adds complexity

Is there a way we can enable full content sharing capabilities (both wired and wireless) from Microsoft Teams Rooms when participating in Zoom meetings? Ideally, this should also extend to other third-party meeting platforms (e.g., Webex, Google Meet) to provide a consistent and seamless experience regardless of the meeting provider.

    Hi Hyun

Good day and thank you for providing a detailed description of your scenario.

Based on my research, Microsoft Teams Rooms can join third-party meetings such as Zoom, Webex, and Google Meet through different interoperability options. The two primary options are Direct Guest Join and Cross-platform meetings via SIP, and the available meeting capabilities can vary depending on which method is being used.

While your post does not confirm which method is currently configured in your environment, the behavior you described appears consistent with the limitations for Direct Guest Join, which allows Teams Rooms to receive content, but does not support sharing content from the room through HDMI ingest or a content camera. However, these content-sharing capabilities are listed as available when using Cross-platform meetings via SIP.

With this in mind, if your organization relies on in-room content sharing during third-party meetings, you may wish to consult your IT administrator to determine whether Cross-platform meetings via SIP is available and suitable for your deployment. This interoperability feature is supported with several third-party meeting platforms, including Zoom, Webex, and Google Meet.

Additional guidance on Cross-platform meetings via SIP is available in the same Microsoft Learn article referenced above. For more information, please see: Third-party meetings on Teams Rooms - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn.

In case you do not know who is your IT admin, kindly refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support.

I hope this helps clarify the behavior you are experiencing and provides some direction for further review with your Teams Rooms administrator. Should you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment on this thread.
