Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
Dear James,
Good day, and I appreciate the detailed description of your issue.
I understand that you are looking to change the default link handling in Classic Outlook from Edge to Chrome. As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could directly access your device or step into the backend systems to diagnose and resolve this for you. Unfortunately, my role here is limited to providing general guidance and solutions that you can apply from your side.
Since your Outlook version does not have the File and Browser Preferences option under Outlook Options, the link handling will fall back to whichever browser is set as the default at the Windows level. Please try the following steps to see if it helps:
Go to Windows Settings > Apps > Default apps.
Make sure Chrome is set as default app for: HTTP, HTTPS, .htm, .html
If any of these are still assigned to Microsoft Edge, Outlook will continue to open links in Edge, so please make sure all four are switched to Chrome.
Restart Outlook and test opening a link to confirm.
I hope this information helps clarify the situation and gives you a workable solution. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm always happy to help. Have a wonderful day!
