Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hello,
The new Outlook for Windows does support opening .eml, .msg, and .oft files, but only with the latest version.
If dragging an email to a folder creates an .eml file that does not open, please try the following:
Make sure you are using the latest version of the new Outlook
In File Explorer, right‑click the .eml file > Open with > Outlook (new)
Or drag the .eml file directly into the reading pane of the new Outlook
Check that Outlook (new) is set as the default app for .eml files
(Settings > Apps > Default apps > Choose Outlook (new))
Microsoft has recently updated the new Outlook to support opening .eml files, so older documentation may say it was not supported.
