Patent

Patent gives AI agents and automated workflows direct, structured access to global patent and trademark data. It searches and retrieves across EPO, USPTO, DPMA (Germany), EUIPO, IP Australia, JPO (Japan), and TIPO (Taiwan), plus a built-in reference server for semantic prior-art search, examination manuals, and classification data, all through a single certified connector.

Published and maintained by patent.dev, the operator of the underlying service.

What you can do

The connector exposes patent and trademark intelligence across several areas:

• Search: full-text and field search across patents (search_patents), trademarks (search_trademarks), designs, owners, and classifications.
• Retrieve patent detail: bibliography, abstract, claims, description, full text, citations, legal status, patent family, continuity, assignments, and prosecution timeline.
• Trademark and design: trademark status, documents and imagery; design search and imagery.
• USPTO prosecution: office actions, rejections and citations, PTAB proceedings and decisions, petitions, and portfolio lookup by customer number.
• Reference server: semantic reference search for prior art (reference_search), examination manuals (list_manuals, get_manual_section), and the classification taxonomy (IPC/CPC tree, catchword index, term search and validation).
• Documents: download patent and trademark documents, fetch patent and design images.
• Utilities: patent number conversion, patent comparison, quota status, provider listing, server info.

Every operation returns consistent, structured JSON suitable for grounding an agent or driving an automated workflow. Tools are discovered dynamically from the MCP server, so new and updated tools appear automatically.

Setup

1. Create an API token in your patent.dev account at https://patent.dev.
2. Create a connection and paste your token (format Bearer pmc_...) as the API key.

The connector calls the production MCP endpoint at https://mcp.patent.dev/mcp.

Authentication

Authentication uses an API key. Each user supplies their own patent.dev token, sent as the Authorization header. Tokens are per-user, so identity, quota, and billing stay tied to each account.

Limitations and notes

• Reference content (classification taxonomy, examination guidance, citations) is provided as candidate references to verify against the primary source, not as legal determinations.
• Most analytical operations are English only.
• Some operations enforce per-account rate and usage quotas; check get_quota_status.
• Coverage and field availability vary by issuing office.
