Confirm that no tenant exists
A Microsoft tenant is your organization's private space in Microsoft's cloud. It gives you access to Microsoft services like Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, and Surface Management and Support Portals. Your tenant is identified by your domain name. It's where your users, devices, and data are managed securely.
Note
If your company uses Microsoft 365, or has an E3 or E5 subscription to Intune or above, you already have a tenant.
Before creating a new tenant, you must confirm that no tenant for your organization already exists. To do this, use the Tenant Lookup Tool:
- Visit https://aka.ms/wheres-my-tenant.
- Type in your organization's domain.
- Select Lookup Tenant.
Important
If a tenant exists, don't proceed. Contact your IT department or Microsoft support to gain access to the existing tenant. Creating a new tenant when one already exists can lead to confusion, mismanagement of resources, and issues with support and device management. Always ensure that you're working within the correct tenant for your organization.
