I have a new external audio device. When I tried to use it for a call, I was able to hear the other side, but they couldn't hear me. Trying to troubleshoot while not on a call.

"Test call" option is not available in Teams with Personal account (Teams Free). This feature is only available in Teams with a Business account.

In Teams Free you can use the virtual "Echo / Sound Test Service" contact to test your audio/video settings.

However, you should also check if your microphone is working with any other application and if the device on which you are using Teams have granted permission to use Microphone with Teams.

To test an external audio device in Microsoft Teams without being in a meeting, you can use the built-in audio settings to check your microphone and speaker functionality. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Open Microsoft Teams: Launch the Teams application on your device.
    2. Go to Settings: Click on your profile picture in the top right corner, then select Settings from the dropdown menu.
    3. Select Devices: In the settings menu, navigate to the Devices tab.
    4. Test your Microphone and Speakers: In the Devices section, you will see options for your audio devices. You can select your external audio device from the dropdown menu for both the microphone and speakers.
      • You can use the Make a test call feature to check if your microphone is working correctly. This allows you to hear your own voice and ensure that the device is functioning properly.
    5. Adjust Settings if Necessary: If you find that your microphone is not picking up sound, ensure that it is not muted and that the volume levels are set appropriately.
    6. Check Device Connection: Make sure that your external audio device is properly connected to your computer and that any necessary drivers are installed.

By following these steps, you can troubleshoot your external audio device effectively without needing to be in an active call.
