I can't open Microsoft office on my Android phone despite being subscribed via my PC and linking my phone to the PC Google account.

    Welcome Kuzipa Nalwamba!

    Thank you for reaching out.

From what you shared, I understand that the Office apps on your Android phone are not opening, even though you have an active subscription and the phone is linked to the same Google account to your PC.

First, please note that Microsoft 365 subscriptions are tied to your Microsoft account, not your Google account. On Android, the Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) must be signed in directly with the same Microsoft account that owns the subscription.

Next, go to phone Settings > Apps > Office apps > Permissions and make sure the required permissions are allowed. Also ensure the Office apps are fully up to date via the Play Store.

If the issue continues after trying the steps above, please share the details here so we can look into it further.

On Android, Word and the other Office apps do not use the PC’s Google account or subscription directly. The most common cause of not being able to open documents is either an unsupported file format or that the file contains elements Word for Android cannot read.

    To fix this:

    1. Confirm the file type is supported by Word for Android (for example, .docx rather than older or unusual formats). If the file is in an older or unsupported format, open it on a different device (Word for Windows, Word for the web, or Word for iOS), let Word recover it, then save a new copy. That new copy should open on Android.
    2. If Word for Android shows an error suggesting opening the file in Word on another device, follow that guidance: open the same file in Word for Windows, Word for the web, or Word for iOS, save a copy, and then try again on Android.

This behavior does not mean the file is damaged; it means the Android version of Word cannot interpret some elements in the document until it is resaved by another Word app.
