I have credits in my Skype paid service under my microsoft account. And Skype asked me to update my billing address before I can continue using the service. I have updated my payment billing address, but I still can not make skype calls. It says I need to update my billing address as a prompt again, It has been four days, why. Logging out of Skype calling pad and Teams and logging back in many times still does not solve the problem. I need to make a call pretty urgently.

Can you go to https://account.live.com > Your info, make sure the language field is not blank or incorrect. Make sure you have it set up to the correct language. Then update your billing address again, and see if that helps.

The Skype Dial Pad and paid calling now have several restrictions that likely explain this behavior.

    1. Confirm that the account still qualifies for Skype calling
      • The Skype Dial Pad is only available for users who currently have an active subscription, active Skype Number, or active Skype Credit.
      • Existing calling and Skype Number subscriptions automatically renew only until April 3, 2025.
      • After Skype’s retirement in May 2025, paid Skype features are no longer offered to new customers, and only remaining paid users can keep using the Dial Pad.
      • If the subscription or credit is no longer active (for example, expired or not renewed), updating the billing address alone will not restore calling.
    2. Check and reactivate Skype Credit if needed
      • Sign in to the Skype web portal and go to My Account: My Account.
      • On desktop, check the Skype Credit balance at the top left next to the name; on mobile, tap the profile picture and look under the Skype Phone section.
      • If the credit is inactive, use the My Account page to reactivate inactive Skype Credit as described in the Dial Pad guidance.
    3. Use the correct entry point for calling
      • For remaining paid users, the Skype Dial Pad is available:
        • On the web at calling.web.skype.com, or
        • By logging into Microsoft Teams Free (latest version) with the Skype/Microsoft account that has the active credit or subscription.
      • Teams Free itself does not provide general phone calling; it only surfaces the Skype Dial Pad for accounts that already have eligible Skype paid services.
    4. Verify there is still usable calling entitlement
      • If new paid features (Skype Credit or subscriptions) were purchased or changed after Skype retirement, they may not be valid, because paid Skype features are no longer offered to new customers.
      • If the account is a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscriber, the 60 minutes of Skype calls benefit is still usable only until March 2026, via the Skype Dial Pad. After that, the benefit is removed automatically.
    5. If calls still fail after confirming active credit/subscription
      • Check the Skype Status page for any ongoing service issues.
      • If the account definitely has active Skype Credit or a calling subscription, and the Dial Pad still insists on updating billing details, contact Skype support directly via the Contact Skype support page and choose the billing/paid services option.

Because the need to update billing keeps reappearing even after changes and sign-out/sign-in, the most likely causes are:

    • The Skype Credit or subscription is inactive or expired, and must be reactivated in My Account; or
    • The account no longer qualifies as a remaining paid Skype user under the retirement rules, so the Dial Pad cannot be used even though the UI still prompts for billing.
