I use Samsung Galaxy M13, Android 14, One UI 6.1, which updated today. Word is crashing immediately after startup. I have uninstalked the app and reinstalked it. Cleared data to 14 KB, cleared cache. I tried Offline mode but still it crashed. No sign-in required to reproduce. Excel works. OneDrive works. Please help.

Hi @Gandharbika Bhattacharya ,

Given that all standard troubleshooting and updates are already covered, escalation typically relies on Google Play Store feedback, and Word Online (browser) or another device may be the only reliable workaround until a fix is released.

I also found similar threads (from a previous One UI update) where a certain workaround helped some users, so it may be worth trying.

This is what worked. I didn't think I had office mobile app. It didn't show up anywhere, but when I searched in settings it worked. This solved it:

  1. In settings search 'office mobile'
  2. Open office mobile app
  3. 'Force stop'
  4. Try to open and will ask for permissions
  5. Allow all
  6. Try opening word, excel, PowerPoint, etc.

I fixed it. When I opened the Office Mobile app, it had a storage/access request prompt. After I dealt with that, I opened Word and Excel from that app.

Office Mobile app mentioned in those threads is now called the Microsoft 365 (Copilot) app, so you can try the same steps there if applicable.

Hi @Gandharbika Bhattacharya ,

This looks like a compatibility/regression issue after the recent Android/OneUI update, since the crash occurs on launch, without sign-in, and reinstall didn’t help.

Reinstalling typically installs the latest version, but it’s still worth checking for Word app updates in the Google Play Store. Also confirm that Android System WebView and Google Chrome are fully up-to-date, as Office apps may depend on these components.

You can also check this similar discussion:

If the issue persists, send feedback via "Word > Settings > Send Feedback" and use Word Online as a temporary workaround.

Regards,
Burak V.
