Dear Microsoft Surface Support Team,

I am writing to report a recurring hardware fault on my Surface Pro 12, purchased recently and currently under warranty.

The device is experiencing repeated unexpected shutdowns accompanied by a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) displaying an error message referencing "Secure Boot" or a similar Secure Kernel error. The issue occurs frequently and the device does not remain operational long enough to complete standard troubleshooting steps.

Steps already attempted:

  • Disconnected all peripherals
  • Checked for Windows and Surface firmware updates
  • Attempted Safe Mode boot

The fault persists regardless of the above. Given that this is a new device exhibiting a critical recurring failure, I am requesting either a warranty repair or replacement unit under the Microsoft Hardware Warranty.

Please advise on next steps and the fastest available resolution path.

Device details:

  • Model: Surface Pro 12

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

    Hi Makram Ebeid,

I understand how concerning it is to experience repeated unexpected shutdowns and Secure Kernel / Secure Boot-related blue screen errors on a new Surface Pro 12. Given all the troubleshooting steps you tried, it's reasonable to request repair/replacement services.

That said, before getting further, I need to clarify that Microsoft Q&A is just a user-to-user support forum, not the Microsoft Surface Support Team. Contributors here cannot open warranty claims, authorize device repairs or replacements. But we can guide you on the right path, refer to How to get service or repair for Surface - Microsoft Support

In addition, it may help to have the device serial number, proof of purchase, as well as any photos of the blue screen or Secure Kernel / Secure Boot error available. It will help with the process of your request!
