I want to start using my standard business account for PP. After purchase, I didn't set up my account properly, but I don't know what to do. I purchased the business plan, but if I was supposed to purchase a domain I didn't do that, because I don't know why I would need that. I am just needing a standard business plan so I can do mor on PP. Please help me.

    Hi Rosemary

    Thank you for reaching out.

If by “PP” you mean PowerPoint, you do not need to purchase a custom domain to start using it with your Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscription.

A custom domain (for example, yourbusiness.com) is only required if you want a branded email address like ******@yourbusiness.com. You can still use your subscription fully with the default Microsoft domain (such as yourcompany.onmicrosoft.com) and choose to add a custom domain later if needed.

To get started, please follow these steps:

1/ Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center

Go to: Microsoft 365 admin center

Sign in using the account associated with your purchase.

After purchasing, Microsoft typically sends a confirmation email that includes your admin account details. This account usually ends with onmicrosoft.com

Note: The email used to make the purchase is not always the same as your admin sign-in account. If unsure, search your inbox for terms like “Microsoft” or “onmicrosoft.com” to locate the original email.

2/ Confirm your license is assigned

    • In the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, go to Users > Active users
    • Select your account
    • Open Licenses and apps
    • Ensure Microsoft 365 Business Standard is checked
    • Save changes

A license must be assigned before you can use apps like PowerPoint.

3/ Install PowerPoint / Office apps

    • Go to https://www.office.com
    • Sign in with your business account
    • Click Install apps > Microsoft 365 apps
    • Run the installer
    • Open PowerPoint and sign in with the same account

If your main goal is to access additional PowerPoint features, the key things to verify are that your subscription is active and that the correct license is assigned to your business account. You can skip setting up a custom domain for now unless you specifically need a branded email address or a more professional sign-in name.

I hope this helps you get started. If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to help.

Thank you for your kindness and for contributing to the forum.
