I am trying to add a domain to my new tenant, and I'm getting an error that's already registered to another tenant.

The error tells me to contact GoDaddy support, but GoDaddy says Microsoft owns the tenant and they need to remove it.

I can't get to a real person at Microsoft to help me rescue my email account.

    Dear @Kristi Szabo,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, you are unable to add your domain to a new Microsoft 365 tenant because it is already registered in another tenant.

The issue occurs because a custom domain can only be associated with one Microsoft 365 tenant at a time. If the domain is still linked to another tenant, it must be removed or released before it can be added to your new tenant.

In this situation, the domain must be released by Microsoft’s backend team. If you are global admin, you can use this link to find the appropriate contact number: Global Customer Service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

Or you can create a support request from the Microsoft 365 Admin Center https://admin.microsoft.com/#/support/requests

Go to Support > Help & Support and submit a new request

Only Microsoft Support (Data Protection Team) can release a domain from another tenant after confirming ownership.

I hope my information above meet your expectations and can help you resolve the issue, feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.
