I have been trying for many days to set up a facial recognition password for my laptop, but I am not able to. This started happening when i have called Lenovo support because my laptop keyboard was not working, so then I called the repair team to my home for home services, and my laptop keyboard started working, but the facial recognition has not been working since that time.

    Hi Jainish Khatri,

I understand how frustrating this must be, especially since Windows Hello facial recognition was working before the repair and only stopped afterward.

To help narrow this down, could you please share a few more details?

    • What is the exact Lenovo laptop model?
    • Does the built-in Camera app open and show video normally?
    • In Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Facial recognition (Windows Hello), what exact message do you see? For example, does it say “We couldn’t find a camera compatible with Windows Hello Face” or “Something went wrong”?
    • Does your Lenovo laptop have a physical camera privacy shutter or a keyboard shortcut that disables the camera?
    • Do you see any warning icon under Device Manager > Cameras or Biometric devices?

In the meantime, please try these steps:

    1. Check the camera physically: Make sure the camera lens is not covered, the privacy shutter is fully open, and there is no dust or obstruction around the camera area.
    2. Test the camera in Windows: Open the Camera app from Start and check whether the camera preview works normally.
    3. Check camera privacy settings: Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera, then make sure Camera access and Let apps access your camera are turned on.
    4. Try setting up Windows Hello Face again: Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Facial recognition (Windows Hello). If available, try Improve recognition first. If that does not help, remove the existing face data and set it up again.
    5. Check Device Manager: Right-click Start > Device Manager. Expand Cameras, Biometric devices, and System devices if available. If you see any warning icon, try updating or reinstalling the related camera/biometric driver, then restart the laptop.
    6. Install Lenovo and Windows updates: Please check Windows Update, including optional driver updates. Also install the latest camera, chipset, BIOS/firmware updates from Lenovo’s support page or Lenovo Vantage for your exact laptop model.

Since this started right after an on-site repair, it is also possible that the camera/IR camera module, cable connection, or related driver was affected during the repair. If Windows no longer detects a camera compatible with Windows Hello Face, I recommend contacting Lenovo Support again and letting them know the issue began immediately after the keyboard repair. Thank you so much for your understanding.
