    Hi George Penty,

I understand that your microSD card is detected by your Surface Pro, but it will not open when inserted directly into the device, while the same card works normally when using an external card reader.

To help narrow this down further, could you let me know:

    • Which Surface Pro model are you using?
    • Which version of Windows is installed (Windows 10 or Windows 11)?
    • Do other microSD cards work correctly in the Surface Pro's card slot?

In the meantime, please try these steps:

    1, Open “Device Manager”:

    • Press Windows + X and select “Device Manager”.
    • Expand “Memory technology devices”, “Disk drives”, and “SD host adapters” (if present).
    • Look for any device showing a warning icon.

2, Reinstall the SD card reader driver:

    • In Device Manager, right-click the SD card reader device.
    • Select “Uninstall device”.
    • Restart your Surface Pro.
    • Windows should automatically reinstall the driver after reboot.

3, Check whether the card has been assigned a drive letter:

    • Right-click “Start” > “Disk Management”.
    • Locate the microSD card.
    • If it appears without a drive letter, right-click it and select “Change Drive Letter and Paths” to assign one.
