Sorry to hear you're having trouble.

To change any personal information you would need to first log in to https://account.microsoft.com and then click on Your Info on the left side and finally scroll down to where it says edit account info. Please note that you may need to remove the phone number prior to adding the new one. Also please remember that changing information such as a phone number will put a temporary 30 day freeze on your account so you won't be able to add or purchase anything during that time.

    Hello Ms. Yusra,

I hope you are doing well.

Microsoft recently announced that it is phasing out SMS as an authentication and account recovery method for personal Microsoft accounts. Instead, it is steering users toward:

    • Passkeys
    • Microsoft Authenticator
    • Verified additional/backup email addresses

As part of this transition, Microsoft has also started removing the ability to add new phone numbers for many personal accounts

    My Pro Recommendation:

    1. Make sure you have a verified recovery email (add another one).
    2. Set up a passkey or Microsoft Authenticator if you haven't already
    3. Try to remove the old phone after adding the above methods or contact MS Support.

The reason behind this: For security reasons as SMS /Mobile verification is no longer considered to be the most safe solutions. Now, we have other verifications methods.

I Personally use Microsoft Authenticator App on my Mobile (Note: Make sure to have backup of the Auth App).

    Best Regards,

    Mustafa.
