Hi everyone,

My company recently purchased several Office 2024 Home & Business product keys. I am currently the Global Admin of our tenant, and I am trying to figure out the correct way to activate and distribute these licenses to our employees. However, I am running into the following issues:

  1. On login.live.com (Personal Microsoft Account portal): When I try to sign in using our company email addresses to redeem the keys, I receive an error stating: "You can't sign in here with a work or school account."

On portal.office.com (Microsoft 365 Admin Center): When I sign in with my admin credentials, I cannot find any option or section to enter/redeem these specific retail product keys.

Since Office Home & Business is traditionally tied to a personal Microsoft account, I would like to know:

What is the best practice for an Admin to manage, redeem, and assign these Office 2024 Home & Business keys for multiple users within an organization?

Can they be associated with our corporate tenant at all, or do we have to create individual personal Microsoft accounts for each user/device?

Any guidance or step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!Hi everyone,

    Dear @Duong Quang Huy,

Based on the information provided, the behavior you are seeing is expected for Office Home & Business 2024 product keys.

Office Home & Business 2024 is a retail one-time purchase product and is not managed through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center like Microsoft 365 Business subscriptions. Retail product keys must be redeemed through the Office setup portal and become associated with the Microsoft account used during redemption. Because of this, there is no option in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to enter or assign these licenses to users.

For organizations that have already purchased Office Home & Business 2024 licenses, please refer this article to redeem your product key: Where to enter your Office product key

Regarding your question about best practices for organizations, if the licenses you purchased are indeed Office Home & Business 2024 retail licenses, you will need to use Microsoft personal accounts (MSAs) for the redemption process. Work or school accounts cannot be used to redeem these product keys, which explains the "You can't sign in with a work or school account" error that you are seeing.

For administrative purposes, Microsoft generally recommends ensuring that each redeemed license remains associated with a Microsoft account that can be retained and managed by the organization. A common approach is to create and maintain organization-controlled Microsoft personal accounts for license ownership rather than relying solely on an employee's personal account. This helps prevent issues when employees leave the company and makes future reinstallation or device replacement easier to manage.

If your goal is centralized license assignment, deployment, and management through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, you may want to evaluate Microsoft 365 Apps for business, Microsoft 365 Business Standard, or Office LTSC licensing, as those products use different licensing models better suited for organizational management.
