Microsoft needs to release my tenant from my email address. I was on the phone with a representative that gave me microsoft phone numbers because he said I need greater help to resolve this issue. None of them lead to being able to speak with a live agent. This has been going on for a year with hours and hours of time going round and round and nowhere.

Thank you. I opened a small business account then closed it because it didn't suit my needs. The business account is closed. I was told at the time Microsoft would release the tenant to my email address within the month. This was in late 2025. I have been trying to change my personal Microsoft email to the email address I used to open the business account and it won't let me because. I receive a red warning This email belongs to an organization so I could lose access if I leave... This situation has turned into insanity. Personal account help acknowledges that I need to talk with commercial business support, but they won't give me access without a current business account. As you know they have the worst customer service.

    Hello @Joanne Miller

First, I would like to clarify that this is a public user-to-user forum. We do not have access to Microsoft’s internal systems, support cases, billing records, or the ability to release a tenant or make changes to Microsoft 365 tenants on your behalf.

From your description, I just want to make sure I understand the situation correctly:

    • Is your personal email address currently associated with an existing Microsoft 365 / Microsoft Entra tenant or organization?
    • Are you trying to have that tenant released from your email address, or regain control of that tenant?
    • When you say “Microsoft needs to release my tenant,” are you seeing a specific error message, or are you being blocked from signing in, creating a new Microsoft 365 tenant, managing billing, or removing your email from an organization?

If possible, could you please share a screenshot of the exact error message you are seeing? Please make sure to hide any personal information, such as your full email address, tenant ID, phone number, billing details, or support case number before posting publicly.

When you mentioned that this has been going on for a year, are you still being charged for a Microsoft 365 subscription, or is the issue mainly that your email address is still linked to an old/unmanaged tenant?

Please provide the error screenshot and a little more detail about what you are trying to do through the Private Message, and I’ll try to guide you to the most appropriate next step.

    Looking forward to your response.
